I was thinking back over 2013, it flew by so fast, but we really did have an amazing year making the most in being in this part of the world…
Here are some of the highlights…
January
January gets a post of its own. We spent Christmas 2012 in Australia. Saw the new year in with a feast and sparklers on Mount Tamborine!
Only the finest food was consumed… McDonald's (poor Ant is deprived of its delights in Yangon) and PIES at the famous Canungra PIE shop after a long hike at Binuaburra.
Icecream with Groo at Brisbane’s South Bank, a trip to the beautiful Coochiemudlo Island, and a Swiss clock shop (random) with Jack the wonder cousin.
… then on to Sydney. I don’t think I could get bored of looking at the habour and opera house. It’s like standing in a postcard. Even better we spent time with Hutchie and Rich, including canoeing out and about on the harbour near their amazing apartment in Manley…
… next up Melbourne, and a visit to the-Mecca-for-British-tourists that is Ramsey Street (no sign of Madge or Harold). We set off on the Great Ocean Road. I loved the bollard art in Geelong. Hundreds of different characters created out of reclaimed timber pylons. Apparently, according to Katie (my Melbourne friend) Geelong isn’t the greatest place… but I disagree. LOVED it!
This is why people drive the Great Ocean Road…
… There were also beautiful rainforests with prehistoric creatures that needed poking with long sticks…
… a terrifying tree top walk… to be honest, more terrifying for me than Ant…
… We spent our 3rd wedding anniversary enjoying the 12 Apostles… including from a helicopter (also terrifying for me)…
These koalas were in the wild. Amazing to get so close to them!
Lighthouses and kangaroos
We ended up back in Melbourne with the lovely Tom and Katie… just enough time for a vineyard tour and some mini penguin spotting… time goes so fast I can’t believe it was a year ago!
Then back to Yangon. A bearded Ant did the 10km… will be the half marathon this year in a few weeks time!
